Rare "STAR POTTERY" Stoneware Tobacco Jar with Large Stenciled Eagle, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and narrow opening with rounded rim, decorated with a large stenciled eagle covering the front of the jar. Banner in eagle's beak reads "STAR POTTERY". Decoration underscored by a freehand "2" with dashes. Base and shoulder with cobalt stripes. Rare form with strong decoration. Provenance: Tom McCandless Collection, Hopewell, NJ. 2 3/4" x 1 1/4" flake off underside. Light exfoliation to underside. 6" hairline on side of jar, extending 1" onto underside. Spots of fry to cobalt. Small glazed-over stone ping on reverse. Expected light wear to interior of rim. H 11 1/4".
