Cumberland, MD Stoneware Advertising Canning Jar, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and rounded rim, decorated with the large-lettered cobalt stenciling "W.R. BEALL / & CO. / GROCERIES / & / TOBACCO / CUMBERLAND / MD." A good example of Western MD advertising. One glazed-over base chip and one post-firing base chip. A few small chips to interior of rim. Glazed-over flaw to shoulder. 3 3/4" X-shaped hairline near base on reverse. Area of over-firing with small contact mark on right side. H 1/4".
