Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration and Maker's Stenciling "MAnUFACtUrED, BY / J.H. MILLER / BrAnDEnBUrG, KY," circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and thin squared rim, decorated with large brushed cobalt leaves at the shoulder and base, along with the elaborate stenciled signature of potter James H. Miller at the midsection, girded above and below by cobalt dashes. Impressed 2 on shoulder. A good example from a rare Midwestern pottery. 4" x 3/4" loss to rim on reverse. 2 1/2" glazed-over line from rim. Light wear to surface. H 11 1/4�.
