Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Tornado Decoration, Midwestern origin, circa 1870, ovoid jar with rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt 5 flanked by "tornado" designs. Additional large carrot-shaped foliate designs below the handles. Hairlines to front. Tight hairlines to front and reverse, which possibly occurred in the firing. Traces of old green paint to surface. H 15 1/2".
