Early Stoneware Jug with Impressed Eagle and Cannon, Stamped "CHARLESTOWN," Massachusetts origin, circa 1815, skillfully-potted, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled shoulder and spout, the base with a dipped iron glaze. Shoulder impressed with a spread-winged eagle atop a cannon with cannonballs. A fine example of early New England stoneware. Provenance: Sanford Smith, New York, New York. As-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark below spout. H 14 1/2".
