Exceptional Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Incised Flower Blossom Decoration, Stamped "J. REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," circa 1810, ovoid jar with tooled foot, heavily tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, impressed with the large, cobalt-highlighted mark of John Remmey, III on the front. Reverse with an incised four-petaled flower blossom, filled with cobalt. Additional cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. An extremely rare size for this maker. Provenance: Descended in a 19th century Virginia family to its current owner, and never offered for sale since its manufacture. Excellent condition with a few minor, in-the-making base chips and a small rim chip. H 7 5/8".
