Westerwald Stoneware "GR" Jug with Incised Decoration, circa 1770, bulbous jug with heavily-tooled collar, decorated with an applied Georgius Rex medallion surrounded by overlapping petals. An incised two-stemmed plant flanks the medallion capped by unusual scalloped petals. Impressed circles on shoulder. Interestingly, this jug features an incised design which was partially wiped out and replaced by another, visible surrounding the medallion. Cobalt highlights to incised decoration. Collar decorated with manganese slip. Inverted Y-shaped hairline in collar. H 6 1/2".
