Westerwald Stoneware "GR" Mug with Incised Decoration, German origin, circa 1770, bulbous mug with tooled foot and heavily-tooled collar, decorated with incised flower petals surrounding an applied "GR" medallion. Sides of mug decorated with incised leaves. Decoration highlighted in cobalt slip. Collar highlighted in manganese slip. Found in the Suwannee River, which extends from Southern Georgia to Northern Florida, where it may have been an Indian trade item. Mug has a smooth, somewhat worn surface from its time underwater in a river. In-the-firing stone ping on right side of mug. H 5 3/4".
