Scarce Early Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird and Cobalt Floral Decoration, New Jersey or New York origin, possibly Troy, NY, circa 1820, large-sized ovoid jug with heavily-tooled shoulder and unusual tooled and flattened spout. Front decorated with an incised ring-necked bird overlain with a large brushed cobalt floral design. Excellent form and decoration. Provenance: Sanford Smith, New York, New York. 1 1/2" hairline on underside, extending 4" up base of jug. 1 1/2" piece of kiln furniture adhered to reverse at base. Contact mark to shoulder. H 15 1/2".
