Rare Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WESTHAFER AND LAMBRIGHT," Mill Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, origin, circa 1865, cylindrical churn with thin rim, decorated with a finely-brushed flowering plant having a dotted blossom. Impressed "WESTHAFER / AND / LAMBRIGHT / 8" on reverse. Westhafer and Lambert appear in the Twenty-First Annual Report of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture ... for the Year 1866 as a "Manufacturing Establishment" located near Urichsville in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and a search in the 1870 Federal Census reveals the pottery's specific presence in Mill Township. Exceptional size with strong decoration. 9 1/2" Y-shaped line under one handle, not visible on interior. Otherwise mint condition. H 19 1/2".
