Rare Three-Gallon Lead-Glazed Jug with Cobalt Tulip Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," circa 1860, large, semi-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout and ribbed handle, decorated with three large cobalt dotted tulips, swags flanking the handle, and a leaf-like design along the top of the handle. Surface covered in an unusual lead glaze. Examples of cobalt-decorated John Bell pottery with this lead-glazed treatment are significantly rarer than his salt-glazed products. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market piece consigned from Georgia. Mint condition. H 17".
