Stoneware Cake Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Philadelphia, PA origin, circa 1850, with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed handles, decorated on the front and back with a brushed cobalt leaf and fan-shaped floral motif. Additional leafy brushwork under each handle. Excellent color and decoration. In-the-firing vertical separation on interior wall of crock. This firing flaw is evident as a 3 1/2" crack on exterior, extending from rim under one handle. In-the-firing horizontal crack to same handle, along with a few very minor handle nicks. Small rim chips. H 6 1/4" ; Diameter 11 1/2".
