Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to David Greenland Thompson, Morgantown, WV, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled midsection, rounded rim, and applied ribbed handles, decorated with a sweeping vine across the shoulder, and cobalt leaves flanking the number 4 below. Shoulder, midsection, and base, decorated with a brushed cobalt stripe. Chips to handle. A few chips to interior of rim. Some staining to surface, mostly visible on shoulder on reverse. H 14 1/2".
