Rare Stoneware Cream Jar with Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "A.P. DONAGHHO, / FREDERICKTOWN, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with flattened rim, decorated with a stenciled eagle holding a banner, which reads "Excelsior Pottery." The name of the potter and town of origin "A.P. DONAGHHO, / FREDERICKTOWN, PA" are stenciled in large block letters above decoration. An outstanding example of early Donaghho stoneware, with crisp stenciling that covers much of the jar's front. Excellent condition with shallow 1" chip on interior of rim. H 9 1/2".
