Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Standing Deer Decoration, Stamped "EDMANDS & CO.," Charlestown, Mass. origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt standing deer design. Deer is underscored by slip-trailed grasses and depicted with a large, turned head and heavily-slip-trailed body. Reverse impressed with "EDMANDS & CO." maker's mark. An excellent example of Northern figural decoration. Small firing flaw on front. Chips on underside at bottom edge of crock. Small base flake on reverse. H 9 3/8".
