Rare Double-Handled Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J.S. NASH," Jefferson S. Nash, Marion Co., TX, circa 1850, ovoid jug with tooled spout and applied open handles, covered in a pale greenish alkaline glaze. The rare maker's mark of Edgefield, SC-trained potter, Jefferson S. Nash, is impressed below the spout, along with an impressed pinwheel design. Excellent form. A fine example of Southern stoneware. Provenance: Ex-collection Georgeanna Greer. Pictured on p. 64 of Cinda K. Baldwin's book, Great and Noble Jar. Two spout chips, one measuring 3/4" x 3/4", the other much smaller. Thin horizontal crack in one handle. H 16 1/2".
