Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, Edgefield, SC origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with rounded rim and thin tab handles, decorated in reddish-brown iron slip with a scalloped line design on the front, back, and under each handle, applied over an olive-colored alkaline glaze. 2" rim chip. 1 1/2" flake to underside of one handle. Cracks in underside. These cracks connect to an X-shaped crack at base, with one crack extending 9" up one side of jar. Additional spidering crack at base, extending 4" up one side of jar. Another thin, Y-shaped crack extends approximately 4" up from base. 1 1/8" x 1/8" flake on surface. H 11 1/2".
