One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar Dated 1840, Northeastern U.S. origin, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated on one side with date "1840" bordered by cobalt brushwork and on the reverse with a "1" surrounded by similar decoration. Stone ping near base under one handle. Dent on one side that was covered over in cobalt. 7/8" chip on interior of rim. H 8 1/4".
