Very Rare Stoneware Wax Sealer with Cobalt Stars and Stripes Decoration, Stenciled "Jas Hamilton & Co. / Greensboro, PA," circa 1875, with flared body, sloped shoulder, and wide mouth, cobalt-decorated across the front with a bold and patriotic design of brushed freehand stripes and twenty-eight stenciled stars. Reverse stenciled "From / Jas. Hamilton & Co. / Greensboro, Pa." An exceptional Western PA wax sealer with visually-stunning graphics and rare two-sided stenciling. Cracks at base, one of which extends 4" onto underside. Crazing to reverse. Chips to interior of rim. 1 3/4" line from rim. Stained areas. H 9 1/2".
