Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Fireman Slogan, Stamped "LYONS," New York State origin, circa 1850, ovoid jug with thick spout and applied strap handle, decorated with the slip-trailed cobalt slogan "not a fear / when your (a) fireman." Highly unusual decoration. Spidering cracks extending partway down front of jug from shoulder. Shallow spout chip, which possibly occurred in the making. In-the-firing touch mark on right side of jug. H 11 1/2".
