Five-Gallon Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Crock, Midwestern origin, late 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled rose design and a stenciled "5" underscored by a stenciled flowerhead or star design. Salt drip at base under one handle. 2 3/4" hairline from rim on reverse. In-the-firing 1 1/4" narrow crevice in clay on right side of front. In-the-firing separation on underside, not visible on interior. Handle chip. H 12 7/8".
