Rare Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Johnstown, PA origin, circa 1865, with ovoid body, wide collar, and applied strap handle, decorated with a highly unusual, brushed cobalt triple-tulip decoration. Spout decorated with cobalt swags. Base of handle decorated with a brushed cobalt flower head. Decoration and color are consistent with products of the Hamilton & Pershing and J. Swank & Co. potteries of Johnstown, PA. Two vertical hairlines at base on side and reverse, measuring 3 1/4" and 2 3/4", which continue onto underside. Hairline in underside of upper handle terminal. Spout chip. H 8".
