Very Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN WALKER," Washington, D.C. origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with squared rim and applied tab handles, decorated with a large triple-stemmed flowering plant design bearing three large blossoms. Reverse decorated with two large sweeping flowers. The Alexandria, VA influence on Walker's stoneware is evident in both the form and decoration of this jar. Impressed with the very rare maker's mark "JOHN WALKER" below the rim along with a three-gallon capacity mark. This jar is one of the finest examples of John Walker stoneware we have seen. Two small handle chips. Base chip. Wear to interior of rim. H 14 1/4".
