Extremely Rare Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Christmas Date, Stamped "D.P. HOBART, Agent / Williamsport, PA," 1880, decorated with the large brushed-cobalt date "Dec 25 / 1880" on the front, and the number "485" on the reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle at base and attached clay pieces through which the wire handle is secured. Impressed on reverse with rare D.P. Hobart maker's mark along with a one-gallon capacity mark, both brushed over in cobalt. Desirable form and maker. Dated stoneware from Central PA is considered extremely rare. Several rim chips. Small stoneware ping on front. H 9".
