Exceptional Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Wallpocket, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, with footed base, scalloped rim, and applied arching hanger applied to rim. Decorated with a large applied figure of a bird perched on a plant with leaves and three stamp-decorated blossoms. Surface glazed with lead, copper, and manganese, over a cream-colored slip. This example has various characteristics that make it exceptional, including the unusually large and wide size, scalloped rim, and use of circular stamp on all three flowers. (The central flower is most often found decorated with incised dots only). From a sixty-year Midwestern collection. Repair to bill and right eye. Repair to chip on reverse. Rim chip to right of handle. H 7" ; Width (at top) 5".
