Rare Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, Stamped "J. REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled foot and open loop handles, impressed with the maker"s mark of John Remmey III within an incised and cobalt-highlighted cartouche. Decorated on the reverse with a large incised hanging flower motif, also highlighted in cobalt. Handle terminals brushed with cobalt. A more elaborately incised example of John Remmey stoneware than is typically found. Restored handle. Sealed 7 1/2" vertical crack on front from base, with a 3" hairline extending from it to the left and a 3 1/2" hairline extending from it to the right. H 12 3/4".
