Rare Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, Stamped "J. REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," circa 1810, ovoid jar with tall collar and open loop handles, impressed on the front with J. Remmey maker"s mark highlighted in cobalt. Decorated on reverse with a large and detailed incised design, filled with bright cobalt blue. Additional heavy cobalt applied around the ends of the handles. A finely-decorated example of early Manhattan stoneware. One restored handle. Repaired crack on side, not affecting decoration. Two thin cracks from rim. In-the-making Y-shaped line extending from a stone ping on the front. Base chips. Rim chip. H 9".
