Rare Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Washbowl, attributed to S. Bell & Sons, Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, large, wheel-thrown bowl wih lowered front, molded handles, perforated soap dish with coggled edge, and scrollwork and balls of clay applied to the rim. Glazed all over with lead and streaks of green copper and brown manganese over cream-colored slip. Excellent color. A highly desirable and rare Shenandoah Valley redware form. Expected wear to soap dish. Some wear to scrollwork, and handles, A few small spots of glaze loss to rim. Height to top of scrollwork 6 1/4" ; Diameter 17".
