Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Rooster Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, small-sized, straight-sided crock with handles, decorated with an artistically slip-trailed rooster with comb, turned head, and large tail. Rooster is standing on a circular patch of ground with grasses and shrubs. Maker's mark highlighted in cobalt. An unusual and desirable Norton decoration. Excellent small size. One chip on exterior of rim. Chips on interior of rim. Some fry to cobalt. Height 7".
