Early New Jersey Stoneware Jar w/ Cobalt & Manganese Decoration

Very Rare, Early Stoneware Jar with Open Vertical Handles and Cobalt and Manganese Decoration, New Jersey origin, late 18th century, two-gallon ovoid jar with open vertical handles, decorated front and back with a cobalt floral decoration with brown manganese highlights. In addition, a cobalt "2" on each side, cobalt line below rim and at base, and large cobalt circles to the handle terminals. A very early jar with outstanding form and decoration. Missing one handle. Cracks on underside extending onto side of jar in three places, and measuring 2 1/2", 3 1/4", and 3" tall on jar"s side. 3" crack forms a "T," with top of "T" measuring 3 1/4". Numerous small base chips and a few small rim chips. Height 13 1/2".
