Rare and Important Continental Currency Counterfeit Detector Sheet, Hall & Sellers, Philadelphia, PA, July 22, 1776. Uncut sheet of eight notes, valued at $30, $8, $7, $6, $5, $4, $3, and $2. Each with printed design on reverse, including a pig, a hand grasping a plant, palm trees, fighting birds, a hand with compass, stormy sky, a wreath on pedestal, and a lyre. The interesting prints for this particular series of currency were designed by Benjamin Franklin to deter counterfeiting, and the plates were made by Paul Revere. A rare and visually-appealing piece of numismatic Americana. Provenance: Gifted to Douglas Hamilton Thomas by noted United States historian and Confederate veteran, J. Thomas Scharf (1843-1898). Condition appears excellent. Ungraded.
