JACOB EICHHOLTZ (American, 1776-1842), Oil on Board Portrait of John Hanson Thomas (1779-1815), profile portrait of Frederick, MD native, John Hanson Thomas. Thomas, the grandson of John Hanson, was a highly-respected lawyer and leading member of the Maryland Legislature. He was elected to the U.S. Senate, but died suddenly before taking office. Reverse inscribed “John Hanson Thomas / 1779-1815 / Son of / Dr. Philip Thomas/ and / Jane Contee Hanson”. Painting in excellent condition. Later 19th century frame shows minor damage and wear. Framed Dimensions: 12 5/8” x 11”.
