Rare Georgetown, DC, Needlepoint Sampler

Rare Georgetown, DC Needlepoint Sampler, Dated 1832, with elaborate fan-shaped floral border surrounding a large floral basket flanked by dogs and birds perched in trees. Sampler features the stitched blue words "Wave after wave as rivers flow / And to the ocean run / So minutes after minutes go / And are forever gone." Stitched signature at base reads "Julia Ann Dellaway George-town October 29th 1832 A.D". Samplers from the District of Columbia are quite unusual. Some small holes in border, a small hole at rear of one dog. 3 1/2" horizontal tear at midsection, along with a small damaged area to its right. Staining. Included in a modern frame. Framed Dimensions: 19 1/2" x 19 3/4".
