Extremely Important Bacher Redware Memorial Urn with Incised Poem and Impressed Floral Decoration.
Inscriptions read "Mollie C. Mackley died March 30th 1872 aged 1 year 11 months and 5 Days" and
"Mollie C. Mackley 1872. Here I rest my body and my breast. Remember me and I think of thee."
Incised on underside "made by Anthony Bacher 1873." Apparently made for the infant daughter
of potter James C. Mackley while Bacher was active in Thurmont, MD. Height 5 3/4"; Diameter 12 1/2".
Outstanding Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Foliate Decoration and the Cobalt Inscription "R. Butt"
under each handle. Made at the Montgomery County, MD or Washington, DC pottery of Richard Butt.
This is the only known example of Butt stoneware signed in this manner, and the only example
decorated with a slip cup. A remarkable and important example of DC area stoneware. Height 10".
