| Description: |
This cobalt stencilled, 3 gallon stoneware crock was made at the C.L. Williams pottery of New Geneva, PA, in the late nineteenth century. It features the desirable stencilling, "BEST BLUE STONEWARE," which was a term used by Williams, as well as other local potters, to advertise their wares as being of the highest quality. The stencil took well on this piece, the words are crisp, and the contrast is very nice. |
