Back to Pennsylvania Stoneware |
Item #WPHJ02 |

| Description: |
This unusually shaped, one gallon wax sealer jar measures 4 ¾" across the top and tapers out to 6 ¾" across the bottom, making it very bottom-heavy and difficult to knock over. The freehand and stencilled cobalt blue decoration is outstanding. The entire front of the jar is decorated top-to-bottom with a very stylishly-presented shield, done by using a series of dashes. Stencilled leaves and other stencilled decorations add to the very appealing design of the decoration as a whole. The stencilling is complimented by 3 freehand lines, two at the top and one at the bottom. The name of the pottery, JAS. HAMILTON & Co. of GREENSBORO, PA. is highlighted within the shield. Made c1865. |
