Description:

Extremely fine 1 gallon storage crock signed in very, very bright cobalt blue, "J.D. MAGEE". Decorated with 3 large very, very bright leaves, as well. J.D. Magee was a potter working in Washington County, Virginia in the mid 19th century. This is an exceedingly rare and handsome piece of southern folk art. It is well thrown and extremely well decorated.

Size:

10" tall.

Condition:

2 rim chips. A few tiny base nicks. A very tight line extending down from the rim about 3 ½"; one or two other very tight, difficult-to-see lines coming down from the rim an inch or two. Rings perfectly when tapped.
