This small-sized, semi-ovoid Virginia stoneware jar appears to hold about one-half of a gallon, and is decorated around with eight vertical, wavy lines of manganese. The underside of the jar bears the incised date,
In addition, the line decoration on this example, as well as its small size, are uncommon for Fulton. These details, along with the fact that the jar contains an inscribed date, suggest it may have been a specially produced item. A unique piece of manganese-decorated, Shenandoah Valley stoneware. |
