| Description: |
This canning jar was made by George Newman Fulton in Alleghany or Botetourt County, circa 1866-94. It features an elaborate floral decoration in manganese, covering nearly the entire front--an attractive composition of a flowering plant flanked by fourteen heart-shaped leaves to the left and right. It is of a desirable, small canning jar form, with a wide mouth and a rim on the inside to fit a lid. The jar appears to hold about one half gallon. Overall, a stunning example of Fulton's manganese brushwork. |
