This large (3 gallon) storage crock is stamped twice--once under one of the ears and again on the front near the opposite ear, as follows:
STRASBURG VA.
The strong cobalt blue decoration covers the top half of both the front and back and is also applied at the handle ends; it is the classic work of this famous Shenandoah Valley potter. The rim is thick and the handles are small for such a large crock. There is a deeply incised line below the rim. |

A very tight line extends across the bottom, up the side about 3", then turns and runs about 4". The line is very thin and tight and the crock rings fine when tapped. A few of the usual base chips. |
