| Description: |
This large (4 gallon) stoneware storage crock was made in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia at the Eberly pottery in the latter part of the nineteenth century. It is impressed under one ear,
STRASBURG VA.
This crock is beautifully decorated nearly top to bottom with bright cobalt blue against a medium gray, even salt-glaze. The color and contrast on this piece are superior in every way. The neck is enhanced with a deep tooling and the lug-style ears are relatively small, with cobalt blue at the ends. This Eberly potter's mark was used from 1877 to 1885. This large jar represents the high level of skill attained by this legendary Shenandoah Valley pottery. |
