Item #RCSJ02 |

| Description: |
This small redware cream jar was made at the Emanuel Suter pottery of Rockingham Co., VA, circa 1851 to 1892. It features the pronounced, thick rim characteristic of Rockingham Co. pottery, and bears Suter's 1/4 gallon capacity mark. Below the capacity mark are three deeply incised lines. The jar is glazed inside and out with lead and manganese, resulting in a rust colored body accented with several dark flecks. It is thick-walled and heavy for its small size. This is an attractive, small jar with a positive Suter attribution. |
