Rare Manganese-Decorated Pennsylvania Stoneware Harvest Jug |
||||
Back to Pennsylvania Stoneware |
Item #PXG01 |
|||
| Description: |
This stoneware harvest jug was made with two spouts on each side and a rainbow handle made of clay at the center. Unfortunately, this example lost one spout a long time ago. What makes this very rare stoneware form even rarer is the purplish-brown manganese floral decoration on the sides. This example is likely the work of a potter in or near Western Pennsylvania, possibly Henry Glazier of Huntingdon, PA, as he occassionally used manganese decoration on his pieces. Squat, ovoid body with a teapot-like spout. An outstanding, folky form. |
