| Description: |
This 2 gallon ovoid stoneware jug is signed below the spout in large letters
NEW-YORK It was made at the pottery of Clarkson Crolius, Jr., in Manhattan, New York, circa 1835 to 1849. Surrounding the maker's mark is a group of three curving, cobalt swags, each with a dab of cobalt in the center. There is blue at the handle terminals as well. This jug is expertly thrown, with a highly ovoid belly, heavy incising at the spout, and ribbed handle. A good example of stoneware by the Crolius family. |
