Exceptional 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar w/ Slip-Trailed Dog Decoration |

Item #NYHJ01 |

| Description: |
This 2 gallon stoneware storage jar is not only rare, but of museum quality. It is exceptionally well-executed, with deep and generously applied cobalt slip-trailed decoration of a dog carrying a basket on a clearly defined ground. Stoneware of this quality has been increasing in value at an extremely rapid rate. Because of its rarity and folk art appeal, this jar is an excellent example of the talents of New York State artisans and would be appropriate for New York museum exhibition. The form (a squat, wide-mouthed jar of two gallon capacity) is unusual. The handles are applied high on the shoulders. Also, there is a rim on the inside of the jar, indicating that it probably held a lid at one time. The potter's mark is,
