Small-Sized CHARLESTOWN Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug

Back to New York, New Jersey & New England Stoneware

Item #MACG01

Description:

This finely thrown, stoneware jug is marked at shoulder

CHARLESTOWN

It was made at the Charlestown, Massachusetts, pottery of Barnabus Edmands and William Burroughs sometime during or after 1821. It appears to hold approximately one quart, perhaps slightly more. The jug has two incised bands above the signature, an ovoid waist, and tall neck. The interior is glazed with Albany slip, visible around the mouth. Overall, a nice example of an early New England jug in a desirable small size.

8 3/4" tall.

Condition:

Excellent, as-made condition.

Price:

$295
