This small-sized butter crock, of approximately half-gallon capacity, is stamped firmly below the rim

It was made at the John Bell pottery of Waynesboro, PA, circa 1850 to 1880. The front and back are each decorated with three groups of cobalt swags, and the handles also have cobalt applied on top. This crock is expertly thrown, with a pronounced rim, small rounded handles, and a multi-beaded foot. Nice small size, and vibrant cobalt coloration. A quality example of the popular butter crock form.

Size:

3 7/8" tall x 7" wide.

Condition:

Near mint condition. In-the-making roughness on one handle. Very small chip on underside of other handle.
