Description:

This is a small, approximately half gallon redware cream jar stamped near the top

JOHN BELL
WAYNESBORO

It is lead-glazed on the interior and also has a line of glaze around the exterior of the rim. Below the name, an incised line runs horizontally around the body of the vessel. There is also a number 6 incised on the bottom. This jar is of an unusual bowl-shaped form, and was made at the John Bell pottery of Waynesboro, PA, circa 1860.

Size:

5 1/4" tall x 5" wide at the base.

Condition:

Excellent condition. A very thin line extends down the side from the rim a few inches.
