Description:

Hard-to-find John Bell mark, used by him after 1830. This redware cream jar was made c1850. It is unglazed but coated in red paint, which was probably applied at the pottery after firing. Impressed,

I. BELL

Jar has a series of incised lines under the potter's mark, which are usually not present in later pieces. Made at the John Bell Pottery in either Chambersburg or Waynesboro.

Size:

7 ¾" tall.

Condition:

Rim chips, a few base nicks & wear and tiny nicks on the body of the jar.

Scarce & highly collectible piece!
