| Description: |
William Moyer worked in Harrisburg, PA for only a short time, 1858-60. Pieces signed by this master potter are scarce and difficult to fing. This desirably sized, one gallon jug is deeply impressed with the mark, "WM. MOYER," which is washed over in bright cobalt blue. The front is nicely decorated with a rather large, bright cobalt blue, stylized floral design. The handles ends are decorated with cobalt blue, as well. Around the midsection of the jug is a series of lines, incised by the potter and partially filled in with cobalt blue. Signed Moyer stoneware as nicely decorated as this piece is valued in $1500 range, if in better condition. This piece has some flaws, but is still very striking. |

10 ½" tall. |

Condition: |
|
2 small, shallow chips on the blue. 3 tiny nicks on the side. Thin, short glaze lines around the base and on the back. There are 4 small areas of imperfection on the back, near the handle, that you can feel with your finger. 1 tiny chip on the handle. Sounds like a lot, but this is still a very nice piece of stoneware that is very solid, very beautifully decorated and produced by a scarce maker. |
